ELECTRONICS TECHNICIAN A - Communications
Shipboard Assignment
We are a large Technical Services Company that provides technical services to defense, federal and commercial customers worldwide. We are currently seeking a Chief Electronics Technician to operate and maintain all communications on a sea-going platform in support of a DoD mission.
Job Description: This position involves operations and maintenance of all communication equipment onboard a USNS vessel. Operates and maintains C4I voice, data, video, and imagery circuits as required to the LRU and component/depot level repair. Performs in-depth maintenance and repair procedures for hardware and software as required on standard military communications equipment and peripherals. Uses highly technical and complex test equipment to perform preventive and corrective maintenance on a myriad of systems, equipment and peripherals. Uses complex analytical processes to identify equipment anomalies and affect appropriate repairs. Operates and maintains computer processing equipment, satellite communications systems, secure networks, routers, and other related communications systems peripherals. Reads and interprets schematic diagrams and related drawings. Performs installation, integration and sustainment support tasks. Work may provide technical guidance to lower level technicians while working under limited supervision. Generates formal military messages and transmits/receives over applicable military circuits. Maintains required logs/records. Insures operational readiness. Conducts and supports various operations including, but not limited to, CMS Account Manager; Sensitive, Compartmented, Information Facilities (SCIF) Administrative Support; Preventive/Corrective Maintenance Program based on standard operating procedures. Performs incidental related duties as assigned or required.
Security Clearance: Minimum Top Secret security clearance. TS clearance must be able to be upgraded to SCI immediately upon employment. Existing Clearance Required: Yes
Required Skills: EKMS certification and COMSEC background. Work requires in-depth knowledge of military communications circuits, systems and equipment as well as operational procedures. In depth knowledge and experience operating ship LAN’s. Must be able to read and interpret schematic diagrams, functional block diagrams and related drawings. Repair of complex electronics communications equipment and peripherals required. Experience troubleshooting and repairing military communications circuits/networks a must. Strong understanding of complex interrelationships of circuits and judgment in planning work sequence and in selecting tools and testing instruments. Requires strong background in use of highly technical and complex test equipment. Computer experience relative to military communications and networking, routers, CSU/DSU and related terminal equipment experience required. Knowledge of commercial satellite TV receiving and distribution systems a plus.
Work Environment Ability to live and work with others at sea on a ship in confined spaces for long durations at sea. Must be able to meet maritime physical standards to meet physically demanding requirements. Must be willing and able to climb towers at sea as occasional climbing is required.
Minimum Education: High School Diploma and a minimum of 10 years of experience required. Must have a certification of completion for Electronic Key Management Systems (EKMS) from a Government approved in-residence training class.Desired Education: Bachelor’s Degree in electronics/Electrical Engineering or related field and 4 years practical experience or Associate's Degree in electronics/Electrical Engineering or related field and 5 years practical experience.
