Description:
The Principal Systems Engineer leads and participates in highly complex system projects. Installs, generates, maintains, tests, debugs, and integrate system software programs with COTS/GOTS applications and support equipment, develops instructions for integration of operating system software, and modifies/maintains integration packages via releases and utilities from manufacturers in a multi-operating system and/or network operating system environment. Evaluates existing operating systems/COTS/GOTS software and recommends changes. Optimizes systems software performance. Responsible for applications dealing with the overall operating system, such as sophisticated file maintenance routines, networks, CAD or GIS system software, or mathematical/scientific software packages. Engineers highly complex software that may relate directly to operating systems, their performance or devices controlled.
New Hire and Rehire candidates for this position will be offered the LMOS benefit program. Internal candidates for this position will be able to retain their current benefit program if they are participating in the LMOS, LMES or Corporate benefit programs currently. Other internal candidates will be offered the LMOS benefit program.
Qualifications:
General – The Principal Systems Engineer should possess eight (8) years experience in operating systems programming and/or analysis with more than one (1) operating system and/or network operating system.
Specialized – The Principal Systems Engineer should possess four (4) years experience working independently on highly complex operating systems analysis/programming projects using programming languages/utilities for more than one (1) operating system and/or network operating system environment.
Supervisory – If proposed as a Task Leader, the Principle Systems Engineer should possess twelve (12) months experience in supervision/management of ADP Support Activities.
Please note that General, Specialized and Supervisory Work Experience may be earned concurrently.
Educational Requirements – - The Principal Systems Engineer should possess a 4-year bachelors degree from an accredited college or university in a curriculum or major field of study which either (1) provides substantial knowledge in complex systems engineering, (2) is closely related to the work to be automated, or (3) is in Computer Science, a physical science or a mathematics-intensive discipline.
